Description
[edit]The Slide Inn operates in southeast Portland's Buckman neighborhood. It serves American[1] and German cuisine.[2] The Oregonian described the menu as "German-inspired American comfort food".[3] Food options have included burgers, fried polenta,[4] pretzels,[5] stroganoff, and wiener schnitzel.[6] Stuffed pancakes were available for brunch.[7] The restaurant also serves beer, goulash, onion rings,[8] sausages, and sauerkraut.[9][10] Eater Portland has described the Slide Inn as vegan-friendly.[11]
History
[edit]Eugen and Lenore Bingham opened the Slide Inn in 2012,[12][13] replacing the Italian[14] restaurant Il Piatto.[15][16][17] The restaurant hosted a singles night in 2013.[18] It has also hosted comedy shows regularly.[19]
The Slide Inn appears in sketches of the television series Portlandia.[20] It operated via take-out and offered outdoor seating at times during the COVID-19 pandemic.[11][21] The restaurant was vandalized in 2022.[22]
In April 2026, the business announced plans to close permanently on May 10.[23][24][25]
Reception
[edit]The restaurant was given a rating of 'C+' by a writer for The Oregonian.[26][27]
