History
[edit]In April 2026, during CinemaCon, the Walt Disney Company announced that they would collaborate with global theatrical exhibition partners on a new certification program called Infinity Vision. The certification would focus indicate certain technical standards were met, including featuring large screens, laser projection, and premium immersive audio,[1] and is a step towards helping unify premium theatrical standards globally. Special offerings would also be available to theaters and audience, with participating theaters receiving marketing support and the ability to use the Infinity Vision branding.[2] The first film released under the program will be the September 2026 re-release of Avengers: Endgame (2019).[1] As of April 2026[update], there are 75 Infinity Vision-certified PLF theaters in the United States and 300 internationally, according to Disney.[3]
Technical specifications
[edit]According to Bloomberg News, in order for a theater to become Infinity Vision certified, they must meet, at minimum, the following standards:[4]
- A screen width of at least 50 feet (15 m)
- Laser projection
- Dolby Surround 7.1 sound system
Films
[edit]- Avengers: Endgame (re-release) – September 2026[1]
- Avengers: Doomsday – December 2026[1]
Reception
[edit]Many commentators felt Infinity Vision was created as a response to Dune: Part Three (2026), which releases the same day as Doomsday, having three weeks of exclusive access to IMAX screens.[5][4][6] The Hollywood Reporter's James Hibberd predicted that Infinity Vision would not be mentioned again after Doomsday's release.[5]
