Collaboration with Tommy Bolin
[edit]Cook grew up in Denver, Colorado and began his music career at the Denver Folkore Center working in the record store[1][2].
Cook and Tommy Bolin met during rehearsals for Cook's band Crosstown Bus and later formed another band, American Standard[3], before Bolin's departure to Zephyr[2]. Bolin formed an instrumental group, Energy, which Cook joined as lead singer[4]. During this time, Cook and Bolin began a co-writing relationship which blended elements of blues and rock music which Cook described as "heavy metal jazz fusion"[1].
Following Bolin's untimely death, Cook has remained active in memorials and tributes to Bolin's memory, including features in the 1989 documentary "Tommy Bolin: The Ultimate" and the BolinFest[5][6][7].
Career in Promotion
[edit]Cook is the former head of rock promotion at Elektra Records, where he was working when Phil Walden asked him to join in restarting Capricorn Records as their Senior Vice President of Promotion and Marketing[8]. At Capricorn, Cook promoted bands such as Widespread Panic, Cake, and 311. Cook later worked for New West Records as an Executive Producer[9] before forming his own company, Coherent Music, in 2010[10].
